Keys, Chaos, and Lake Wylie: A Locksmith Tale You Won’t Believe

Every locksmith’s got stories. Some are routine, locked-out moms, broken deadbolts, safes that just won’t crack. And then there’s the kind that belong in a reality show. This one? Let’s just say it involves lost truck keys, a suspicious girlfriend, a second woman, and twice the key ending up at the bottom of Lake Wylie.

It Started Like Any Other Call…

I got a call from a guy near the Buster Boyd Bridge on Lake Wylie. Said he lost his truck keys down by the lake, no biggie. Happens more than you’d think around water, especially this time of year.

He didn’t offer much detail at first, just that he needed a new key cut and programmed on-site. So I packed up, drove out, and got to work.

Enter Life360… and a Suspicious Girlfriend

While I’m programming the new key, the story starts to unfold. Apparently, this guy’s girlfriend used the Life360 app to find his exact location. She had a hunch he wasn’t where he said he’d be. Turns out, her hunch was right.

She pulls up and, yep you guessed it, he’s there with another woman.

She doesn’t yell. She doesn’t scream.

She just walks over, snatches the keys, and with the precision of an Olympic shot-putter… launches them into Lake Wylie.

Cue Locksmith Round 2

Now he’s out of luck again. So I do what I do best—cut another key. He pays, I finish up, and I’m just about to wrap things up when…

Déjà Vu with a Splash

She comes back.

Again.

And like clockwork, grabs the brand-new key and sends it flying into the lake again. This time there’s yelling, name-calling, and enough drama to make a high school soap opera look tame.

The Grand Finale

The police get called, tensions run high, but me? I got paid, packed up my tools, and left with a heck of a story to tell.

Moral of the story? Don’t mix bad decisions, location-sharing apps, and car keys near a large body of water. Also… maybe keep your personal drama away from the locksmith trying to help you out.

Got locked out? Just need a key—not the drama? I’ve got you covered. Call Lock Monkeys 803-636-6337 Serving Fort Mill, Lake Wylie, and beyond—with a sense of humor and a key machine that won’t judge.
